Had a private lesson to learn how to surf up wind. Mike was terrific. Came half an hour earlier when I asked and had all the right answers on how to get better. He had no other pupils but took all the time to observe and correct me so I achieve my new level at IKO.

Since it is my first course I am biased towards it thoughl the points still stand. It was hands on, with the teacher directly communicating to the students about their shortcomings as well as cooperating the judgments of the students giving them the ability to think on their own hand. The teacher communicated their theory effectively and gave active feedback that was easy to comprahend.

I have kited for many year, but did not have a IKO certificate. This is a problem when I am on a kite destination without my own kit and needles to rent. Mikke sorter this out during a private lesson ehre my skill was evaluated and he was confident in giving me a certificate. And I got a good session at the same time ;-)

I came with very mixed experience (had been taught before rather loosely, which made me semi skilled in some intermediate stuff but still missing some basics). Mikael was patient, thorough and effective in going through the stuff I knew already and filling out the rest, so I could get back on track and get a certification to rent my own stuff. I felt safe and informed. The club was easy to talk to both when we came by, and later when I called to make an appointment. Nice location and smiles all around. Recommended.

We started the morning with some general kiting and safety theory. The wind was a bit light prior to lunch and I had lots of problems controlling the kite. I tended to pull the bar instead of releasing it and I was too inpatient waiting for the kite to respond. In the afternoon the wind got better and things became easier. I started to control the kite better and we practiced on body dragging and power strokes. Finally it was time to get up on the board and after a few attempts I managed to get up in both directions. I was the only student and spent a long day with my instructor Mikael, all by myself. He was extremely kind and supportive during the full day and safety was always highest priority. I am very impressed by Mikael’s patience and teaching skills. I couldn’t have had better day, it was absolutely perfect! Big thanks to you Mikael! The location at Surfers Center Öland is great for beginners. The place has a very friendly and welcoming vibe and everybody was extremely friendly and helpful. I would recommend anyone who is interested in trying kite surfing to take this course. It will be a day or two to remember!
